In my Supply Chain Management class this week, our professor showed us a youtube video of a new technology that is starting to be applied to retail goods everywhere – it’s called RFID. It’s essentially like the next bar code.
It holds all of the products information in a little chip, you probably have seen them attached to sweaters or maybe inside of books, but Wal-Mart has started to require that their suppliers attach them to their goods as opposed to individual bar codes because those are now extremely inefficient.
We already are starting to have our own grocery bags and our own checkout lines, but how about filling up our own bags as we walk through the store, have all of our information in a RFID implanted into our hand, and just walk through an x-ray looking scanner to grocery shop…now that’s efficient. Too efficient?
They are starting to put them into animals and humans mainly for tracking purposes.
The way in which things change in this country have taken on an unprecedented path in terms of speed.
Humans…do you think this is too much? What rights are we taking away or potentially adding?
