For those who don’t know, I left Nashville Thursday afternoon …
Stayed in Owensboro, KY Thursday night …
Drove to Indianapolis, IN Friday (Sweet 16) …
Drove to Louisville, KY today (Engagement Party) …
I still have a drive back to Indianapolis tomorrow, then Owensboro, and finally back home to Nashville on Monday morning.
All of this is to say – I am having a lot of time driving.
I have caught myself completely peaceful, angry, laughing, bored, excited, singing (with no music), praying, singing (with music), and listening to Timothy Keller.
My brother and his fiance gave Ash (my fiance) and I a CD set by Timothy Keller on marriage.
It is awesome … Ash & I have loved listening together and having down, quiet, alone time with each other (something that is very rare right now with our wedding 27 days away, her living in KY and me in TN).
One of the most beautiful lessons that I have learned from Timmy (we are only through disc 3) is about love:
Love is an action first, emotion second.
Remember that engagement party I mentioned? Well … it’s in 30 minutes, so I’m out, but I purposely left you with that one line to think about over night.
I am going to post Ash & my understanding (guided by Keller) tomorrow, but just wanted to give you all an opportunity to discuss it with your friend, husband, brother, wife, sister, dog, whoever before I dive into the idea so that you can think first without my influence, then hold it up against mine and see where we agree/disagree/etc producing questions resulting in challenging perspectives, changing perception, and transforming into a “one-step closer” you and me.
I am looking forward to a good discussion on love over the next couple of days, since it is something I struggle with, but for now … I gotta go give it my best shot.
What do you think about love being an action first and emotion second?
