Today’s quote is actually coming from Max Lucado, but it is inspired by the word of God.
More specifically the Gospel.
More specifically the response to the Resurrection.
In his book Next Door Savior, Max Lucado says:
Within weeks disciples occupied every Jerusalem street corner, announcing a risen Christ. … Whip them and they’ll worship. Lock them up and they’ll launch a jailhouse ministry. As bold after the Resurrection as they were cowardly before it.
I have three immediate observations from this scenario.
1) Is this not proof enough that the Resurrection happened? Would people respond this way if the Resurrection didn’t happen?
2) Is this the reason that Christianity spread like wildfire immediately following the Resurrection? Because of the people? Because of the change?
3) If this is the same story that you believe in (if you are a Christ follower)…why do you turn your head when somebody gives you a funny look, much less have any fears about sharing the Gospel?
I am just as guilty as anybody out there, but I truly believe this comes down to an issue of belief.
How much do you really believe in the Resurrection?
Because I think that if you really did believe (me included)…you would have no other choice but to respond in the same manner that Peter did when he returned to the very precinct that Jesus was arrested in to spread the word.
Is this the reason that we are approaching a post-Christian culture…the lack of a changed life? The empty words followed by no transformed life?
