st. andrew’s high school, senior year, english
every friday, my teacher would turn on some funky lights, pop in a freshly burned cd with 3-4 songs on it, and ask us to write until the music stopped
i think that this exercise was so beneficial to my mind and soul
i am sad that i did not continue to do this and would like to start up again
ironically, at doc bear’s house today after we ate a great chili, doc asked me if i had ever drawn a picture of God
he then showed me his and continued by explaining the drawing
it was not the most fundamental drawing, but the expression far exceeded any fundamental beauty, which made it wonderful in my eyes
regardless of the fundamental beauty, artistic ability, or even whether i agree with the drawing or expression, i am asking you to take 15 minutes today to go draw
what do you think God looks like?
We are created in His image, can you post Doc Bear’s? When we look in the mirror in the mornings hopefully we get to see a glimpse of His image that He is re-fining daily to make pure.
Gen. 1:26 Then God said, ” Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness” v.27. And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created them: male and female He created them.
1 Cor. 11:7 For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God.
Yesterday, I learned some things about being created in God’s image. We bear the image of God like (1) mirrors, (2) statutes/sculptures, and (3) children.
1) Mirrors have the ability to catch light and form and cast back images.
But the image and the mirror have to be in right relation with one another to have an accurate reflection.
The Old Covenant gave us 613 commandments: instructions on how to position ourselves so as to best reflect God.
Not a chance for man to live up to that. So we were barred from experiencing what we were designed to do–live in right-relation with our Creator.
Until Jesus. His New Covenant relieves us of the burden of reflecting God from the outside in.
Christ lived perfectly and rose again(!!!); He now indwells His beloved creatures so we bear His image from the inside out.
(“Christ in you, the hope of glory.”)
SO with Christ in us, we fulfill the purpose for which we were created, which is to reflect/magnify/glorify our Triune Creator.
2) When kings and emperors would conquer new lands, they would put up statues and sculptures so that everyone would know who rules. God, as the Ultimate Ruler, gives mankind the authority and the command to rule over all the earth. So we image-bearers are to rule/act in such a way that reflects who God is, how God rules–indeed, that He reigns supreme in every area of every Christian’s life.
3) We also bear the image of our Maker like a child bears the image of his parents.
God includes an intimate, family relationship with humans, the apex of His creation.
Reflecting God’s image entails sonship and servanthood.
My notes are spotty, but the essence is there. The lesson got me fired up so I wanted to pass it on.
How much does God value you to make you in His image!
And, at the same time, how humbling that we have fallen so far from His perfect image.
