Last night at church my dad spoke a great truth into my life: “I think God cares more about our accessibility than our ability.”
Accessibility=Open to the influence of.
Ability=Power or capacity to do.
Well, i know that i alone have no power or capacity to do anything good. God does good through me. Not i.
“Think about Him in ALL YOUR WAYS, and He will guide you on the right paths.” Proverbs 3:6
So when i am not thinking about Him, which path am i going down?
Even on a good day, without God, my abilities are futile.
So i ask you two questions: Are you open to the influence of God?
What does this even mean to you?
To me, it means Proverbs 3:6.
That is so true and so awesome! Jeff Mangum said in a sermon recently that the more unqualified you feel you are to be used for God’s kingdom; the more likely it is He will use you. Look at the example of Moses- He had trouble speaking and God used to Him to speak to Pharaoh to free his people. This is humbling because we know every good thing we do comes from God. With God’s power no matter how unqualified we feel, God will guide us down the right path and can use us for anything. We just have to listen, trust, and obey. That is awesome!
i feel like this is one of the most freeing & most difficult ideas for me to grasp.
i feel like i have more control over my ability (even though i don’t) because it is more tangible for me … i can read more or serve physically more & thus “increase” my power or capacity in the standards of this world … and when it starts with “i” &/or is solely of this world … it’s futile
i feel like i need to do something to open up myself to the influence of God more, but in that, I am still starting with me doing something for myself, which as you pointed out is nothing good…it adds to my pride, my selfishness, my natural desires.
so i pray.
these are some questions i ask myself:
how do i practically open myself more to the influence of God?
i think proverbs 3 is a great answer
the influence NOT of what YOU think God would want or what the morally appropriate thing would be or what others would see as a “godly” act or what the church would expect.
Even if all of these end up being what God would want, how do you bypass all of them and PRIMARILY go to God’s direct influence?
i think my answer would be submerge my mind in Him through prayer, constant study of the Scriptures, and community … or proverbs 3 …
great post … very challenging for me … sry for the rambling, u got my brain cruisin & i couldn’t stop
Everything we are should glorify God and He gives us the power to do this.
2Corinthians4:7
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.”
NIV
Praise God that He makes us worthy vessels through the precious blood of our Savior Jesus Christ.
