the Holy Spirit, through the book of isaiah, provided an extremely fresh bit of air for my spiritual lungs this morning:
all the nations are as nothing before him, they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.
isaiah 40:17
this passage is referring to all of the “seemingly insurmountable nations” (from ESV Study Bible commentary) that Isreal was up against around 700 bc
him = God
insurmountable = too great to be overcome
replace “nations“ with whatever is seemingly insurmountable in your life right now:
pornography
alcohol
greed
lust
selfishness
anger
bitterness
depression
whatever “it” may be…
and then re-read that scripture.
again.
pray it.
again.
again.
breath deep
and smile
knowing that on a relative scale, the power of whatever “nation” you are facing right now is “less than nothing” when in the same room as God…
the more powerful your “nation” feels, the more blown away you should be by this passage
because the power of that “nation” is “like a drop from a bucket” (isaiah 40:15)
compared to the power of God.
what “nations” are you up against right now?
thanks Ronnie… GREAT exercise!!!!!!!! Do it!!!!!
Dude.. thanks for totally kicking my butt… i mean really. wow.
I struggle with the desire to impress people that i dont even know. Why do I want to look cool for people who don’t even give me the time of day. Why is that..
I should be more concerned with what my God and my family think of me. Those are the only people who I should be worried about how they see me….but instead I try to impress people who dont even give a crap about me now.
I know its messed up….I’ve gotten better at recognizing it.. but there still times that I take a step back and think. what the heck am i doing.
@clay – thanks for the reminder…it’s funny sometimes how I write these things, then not even 24 hrs later find myself struggling in the same are that I just wrote about…
@adam – dude…tell me about it…i’m struggling as the king of impressing people…it drives me CRAZY…i’ll be praying for you in this area & would love the same
