‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved’

What does this mean?

To believe in means to trust in, rely on, and cling to.

1. To trust in.

“And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.”  Daniel 6:23

2. To rely on.

“Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.” 2 Cor. 1:9

3. To cling to.  (literally meaning “to glue/become one with”)

“and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” Romans 8:17

I am not saying you have to be thrown into a den of lions, or want to die due to affliction, or suffer to be saved.

I am not sure we will face these exact situations but if we truly want to believe on Him, we can’t sit at home our whole lives.

We are all called to share the good news.  We are called to stand up for Jesus.

Maybe we will die doing it, maybe not.  But does that matter?

It didn’t to the apostles.

Not one of the original apostles said, “you know, i think my gifts lead me to stay at home and provide financially for you guys, i’ll be praying for you.”

All were persecuted for Jesus’ name.

Most died for Jesus name.  Probably very gruesome deaths.

They believed in Jesus.

There was nothing that could turn them away from speaking of Him.

Not even death.

Well then, why do i fear talking to anyone about Jesus?

Do i really believe that He is alive and that the power of the resurrection dwells within me?

Really?

“Thy bounteous goodness has helped me believe, but my faith is weak and wavering, its light dim, its steps tottering, its increase slow, its backslidings frequent; it should scale the heavens but lies grovelling in the dust.  Lord, fan this divine spark into glowing flame.  When faith sleeps, my heart becomes an unclean thing, the fount of every loathsome desire, the cage of unclean lusts all fluttering to escape, the noxious tree of deadly fruit, the open wayside of earthly tares.  Lord, awake faith to put forth its strength until all heaven fills my soul and all impurity is cast out.”  -The Valley of Vision, ‘Faith’-

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever trusts in, clings to, and relies on him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16 (miles’ standard version.)

Please don’t be discouraged right now.

If you begin to rely on Him and trust in Him and cling to Him, you will not be able to not share His name.
