a fourth way in which we can
destroy pride
and
cultivate humility
in the morning (and throughout our day)
is by
- Seizing our commute time to memorize and meditate on Scripture.
not everybody has a long commute,
but everybody has
mundane moments
throughout the day.
in every mundane moment,
speak Truth to yourself instead of listening to the Snake.
here’s a cool story from c.j. mahaney:
In the nineteenth century, the evangelical statesman William Wilberforce was largely responsible for the end of England’s participation in the slave trade. John Piper has written and spoken much about this hero of the faith, and he tells how Wilberforce used his on-mile walk to and from Parliament, where he served in the House of Commons, to memorize and meditate on Psalm 119. Wilberforce could recite the entire psalm in the course of the one-mile walk. He seized that time to speak truth to himself, not listen to himself…
You can either get into mental ruts during this time, or seize your commute time as a means of grace to allow Scripture to transform your thinking (see wednesday’s post).
application #5: memorize & meditate on Scripture during the mundane moments of your day.
what do you do during your mundane moments?
*study on humility based on c.j. mahaney’s book “Humility: True Greatness”
