“Waiting, therefore, is not a sign that your world is out of control. Rather, it is a sign that your world is under the wise and infinitely attentive control of a God of fathomless wisdom and boundless love. This means you can rest as you wait, not because you like to wait, but because you trust the One who is calling you to wait.”
-Paul Tripp, “5 Reasons Why God Calls Us to Wait“

lead us back

Falling down upon our knees,
Sharing now in common shame,
We have sought security,
Not the cross that bears Your name.
Fences guard our hearts and homes –
Comfort sings a siren tune.
We’re a valley of dry bones;
Lead us back to life in You.
Lord we fall upon our knees,
We have shunned the weak and poor,
Worshiped beauty, courted kings
And the things their gold affords,
Prayed for those we’d like to know –
Favor sings a siren tune.
We’ve become a talent show;
Lead us back to life in You.
You have caused the blind to see,
We have blinded him again
With our man-made laws and creeds,
Eager, ready to condemn.
Now we plead before Your throne –
Power sings a siren tune.
We’ve been throwing heavy stones;
Lead us back to life in You.
We’re a valley of dry bones
Lead us back to life in You.
We’ve become a talent show
Lead us back to life in You.
We’ve been throwing heavy stones
Lead us back to life in You.

Proverbs 3:5-7
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.
DO
- Trust the Lord
- Acknowledge God
- Fear the Lord
- Turn away from evil
DO NOT
- Lean on your own understanding
- Be wise in your own eyes
Everyone who hears these words and does them is a wise man with a strong foundation. Everyone who hears these words and does not do them is a fool who will come to ruin.
history and happiness

“Sometimes we think that our personal history blocks us from worshiping God. But remember Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego? Neither their childhood nor present life was pleasant. Perhaps their parents were idolaters who had been killed at the fall of Jerusalem. They were captives in a foreign country. But they had been taught by the Holy Spirit that even if it cost them their lives, there wasn’t any greater joy than experiencing sweet fellowship with their Father. If He can teach these orphans that truth, He can do the same thing for you.
God can teach you that He is your highest good. He can show you that all your happiness is in Him. he delights in bringing His people face to face with the happiness that is His alone.
The good news is that the Holy Spirit can illumine your heart and cause you to grow in your esteem of Christ and disdain for the charms of the world. he does this by inclining you to serve Him and teaching you the true joys of heaven. So, go ahead! Pursue happiness! Define it the way that God does and you’ll never be disappointed. Remember your goal is to say with David, “Nothing, not even life, brings me more happiness than Your love!”
-Elyse Fitzpatrick, “Idols of the Heart” (87-88)

“That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”
-Brother James
What man?
Look it up for yourself: first chapter of James.
Are you that man?
